How Is ILovePuzzle Different From Other Online and Physical Jigsaw Puzzle Sites?
We're newer to the AI jigsaw puzzle space, but we're doing some things differently. Here's a clear comparison with traditional online puzzle games and physical puzzle retailers.

We came into the jigsaw space as latecomers. There are already plenty of free online jigsaw puzzle game sites, and plenty of e-commerce stores selling physical jigsaw puzzles. So new visitors at ilovepuzzle.com often ask: what's actually different here?
This post answers that question as directly as we can.
Quick comparison at a glance

What we do differently
1. Play online and order physical, in one flow
Most puzzle sites only do one of these:
- Online puzzle game sites — free to play, but when you finish, it's gone. Nothing to keep.
- Physical puzzle retailers — you can order a real puzzle, but you won't see how it looks until it arrives.
ILovePuzzle connects these two:
Same image. Play 200 pieces online to see if you love it. Then order the 1000-piece physical version to keep or gift.
Try first, decide later. And once you order, that image lives on as both a digital memory and a physical keepsake.
2. AI turns your everyday photos into art puzzles
Upload a family photo, a pet portrait, or a travel shot, and the AI gives you several artistic versions:
- Pixar 3D — cinematic 3D animation look
- Ghibli Anime — soft hand-drawn animation
- Watercolor — gentle painted style
- Fantasy — illustrated, dreamlike
- Paws & Portraits — built for pets
- Brick Toy — toy-brick interpretation
- Cyber-Wa — anime meets futuristic streetwear
The same photo can tell completely different stories across different styles.
We also encourage playing your original photo. After upload, you can skip AI and use your raw image directly as an online puzzle or a physical order. But AI gives every photo more lives:
- An ordinary family snapshot you'd never make a puzzle from suddenly becomes story-worthy in Ghibli style
- A travel photo with mediocre lighting and composition can come alive in watercolor
- A photo you've already played as-is becomes a fresh experience in Pixar 3D
Photos that weren't quite "good enough" for a puzzle often become genuinely fun once the AI reinterprets them. That's the real value of AI here — not replacing your original, but multiplying what you can do with it.
3. Two play modes: Drag and Swap
We have the classic drag-and-snap mode you'd expect. But we also built a Swap mode.
- Drag mode — pieces scattered on the sides, drag them to assemble. Classic interlocking shapes.
- Swap mode — pieces sit neatly in a grid; tap two to swap them.
Why both? They suit different moments:
- Sitting down with real time → Drag mode feels more like the real thing
- Five minutes on the subway, or a quick break at work → Swap mode is forgiving, no losing pieces, no panning around
Most online puzzle sites only offer Drag. We don't think a puzzle should only have one way to play.
4. Bold content, not just traditional
Traditional puzzle sites and physical puzzle retailers tend to play it safe with content — landscapes, animals, classic paintings, cartoons, the same handful of categories on rotation.
We respect that tradition (puzzles have been around for centuries for a reason), but we deliberately add bold, fresh, sometimes unexpected styles alongside it:
- The Cyber-Wa style mixes anime with futuristic streetwear
- Brick Toy turns subjects into toy-brick figures
- More unexpected directions are coming
Puzzles should work for everyone — from longtime collectors who love the classics to younger users who want something they've never seen before. We think there's room for both, and we're building for both.
5. Highly personalized physical puzzles
Here's how physical orders work at ilovepuzzle:
- Standard order — pick the image, piece count, size, and check out
- Special requests — just tell us
Custom shapes, special materials, gift packaging, added text or photos, gift sets — email hello@ilovepuzzle.com and we'll do what we can.
Most physical puzzle stores don't do this. They show you a catalog, you click buy. We think a physical puzzle should feel like a thoughtful gift, not a generic item off a shelf.
6. Clean interface, no ad bombardment
Many free online jigsaw sites monetize through ads — popup after popup, mid-game interruptions, the works. It's a rough experience.
We currently have no ads on the site at all. Even when we eventually introduce them, we'll keep it minimal — no popups, no mid-game interruptions, no forced video ads. Pro members will never see ads regardless.
ILovePuzzle should feel like a place you want to spend time in, not a tool you tolerate.
Common questions
Can I use my own photo without AI?
Yes. After upload, you can skip AI and use your original photo directly, either to play online or to order a physical puzzle. We encourage it.
Is AI generation free?
Every user gets an AI generation allowance:
- Anonymous users: 5 per month
- Free registered users: 15 per month (6 per week); all 9 AI art styles (promo)
- Pro members: 64 per month (24 per week), no ads, 8% off physical puzzles
- AI Credits Pack: $2.99 for 20 extra generations (one-time purchase, never expire)
Limits may adjust over time — see the Membership page for current details.
Will my photos be public?
Private by default. Only you can see what you upload and generate. You can choose to make a creation public on your profile, but nothing is shared without your explicit action.
What if I don't love the AI result but still want a physical puzzle?
Try regenerating a few times — each run is slightly different and a later attempt often works. If you've tried several times and none feel right, email hello@ilovepuzzle.com with your original photo and what you wanted. We'll take a manual look and try to get you there.
Where do you ship physical puzzles?
Currently North America. We're planning to expand to Europe later. Other regions are not yet available, but we'll add them as we grow.
Can I give you feedback or suggestions?
Yes please. We're a small team and we read everything. Email hello@ilovepuzzle.com or use the Contact page in the footer.
